What is an MMDVM Hotspot?

MMDVM, short for Multi Mode Digital Voice Modem, is a device that provides a connection between your digital radio and "talk groups" using the internet infrastructure.
MMDVM hotspots can operate not only in DMR mode but also in NXDN, DSTAR, P25, and Fusion digital modes.

MMDVM hotspot devices consist of two parts: the first is the Raspberry Pi Zero module, which handles decoding, encoding, internet connection, etc. This board is used in many projects and can be briefly described as a Linux-based mini-computer; the second part is the MMDVM board, which handles all RF (radio frequency) operations (RX, TX, etc.). These two boards easily connect to each other via the GPIO pins on the Raspberry Pi module and transfer data and power between them. You can examine the device's operating system from the diagram.
